Student Spotlight: Spencer Rouland

Kayley Miner, Staff Writer

Spencer Rouland is a senior here at Jacksonville High School. He loves to read about rocket propulsion and ancient history. One of his favorite stories about his experiences with science would be about two years ago when he went to aerospace camp at the University of Illinois. An activity they did was to build a model rocket and shoot if off. However, one of his groupmates decided to put a worm in the nosecone of the rocket, and the rocket went in a circle instead of up and out like it was supposed to do. Another one of his hobbies is to collect coins, mostly rare ones like silver dollars and foreign coins. After high school, Spencer plans to study aerospace engineering at the University of Illinois because of his interest in space and science.
