Bridgett Bass: Hitting the ground and running

Olivia Lee, staff writer

Bridgett Bass, a 2003 Jacksonville High School grad, is excited to revisit her old high school in her first year of teaching here at JHS!  As a teacher, Bass strives to inspire her students through education.  She shares how it is her goal to motivate her students to continue their educational career after high school whether through a college/university or in a different path in order to continue learning new things everyday.  Bass loves seeing her former students and the many things they have accomplished.

Bass shares her love for seeing all of the amazing things her students are able to create through her class.  This plays a main role of the fondness she finds while teaching Physics due to the large amount of projects that take place throughout the class. “Many times the students are given a goal for the project, but not specific directions,” Bass explains. “The ideas and the process of the goal is amazing.”

Although Bass has been teaching for ten years now, she did not always envision herself as a teacher.  While in college, Bass pursued a degree in Biology/Chemistry and discovered her love for the field of science.  She knew she wanted to go into a career dealing with this and eventually stumbled across teaching along the way.  Teaching has not always proved to be easy for Bass.  She often finds herself “hitting the ground and running.”  Life in the shoes of a teacher can be very hectic, but at least this keeps Bass up on her feet and busy for the majority of the day.

Bass would like all of her students to enjoy their high school careers and make the most out of them while they are still here!  Before retiring, Bass hopes to set a positive influence on her students and motivate them to the best of her ability.
