Ian English is a special education teacher at Jacksonville High School. Before he wanted to be a teacher, he was told to go into business. English says that the idea of going into business was boring so he started college as a sociology major for two years, a psychology major for one year, and a health major for one year, all the while taking history and education classes. It actually took him five years to graduate because he was so unsure about what career he wanted to choose. English has no regrets; however, he says, “Everything in life is an experience and those experiences are what made me who I am today.” Spending nine hours a day at JHS has given him surprising insight. When asked if he liked JHS, he responded that he didn’t like the physical plant; he even compared it to working in a coal mine, but he also says that it is the students and co-workers that make it worthwhile. English loves soccer and spending time with his children. When asked who would win the BPL (Barclays Premier League), he says regretfully,” Chelsea would probably take the title.” English also says that if he wasn’t a teacher he would probably own his own business, and he likes his steak medium-rare.
