In our local community are many influential people. Some are great leaders, some are heroes, and some are just great teachers. Of the many to choose from, I have decided to feature a teacher as an influential member of our society. That teacher is our own Mr. Stowers.
Mr. Stowers has worked at Jacksonville High School for nine years and during that time has inspired many students to let out their creativity. Yours truly wouldn’t be in journalism if not inspired by this great teacher.
Teachers are told to teach the curriculum set by the state and district; however, it seems that Mr. Stowers goes above and beyond to teach students the motives behind the authors’ writing, what the author meant by it and how those authors changed the way literature is seen and accepted by the world around us.
Mr. Stowers began his acting career when he watched his older brother play a part in Alice in Wonderland. This sparked a love for the theatre and literature. He has taken part in acting ever since childhood. During that time he has found works of Romeo and Juliet and Cyrano de Bergerac to be among his favorites.
Much of our acting activities such as the fall and spring plays along with the school’s film club can credit their creation and to Mr. Stowers who continues to inspire this school’s young minds to not only accept the arts but to find meaning and a passion for them as well.
