Cinderella was released to theaters on March 13. It is a remake of the classic story of the Disney princess from 1950 using real people instead of the original cartoon. This re-creation earned $68 million on its opening weekend. It tells the story of a young girls named Ella who loses both of her parents and is forced to live as a servant for her evil stepmother and two stepsisters who call her Cinderella. Cinderella falls in love with the prince who must marry soon. He never learns her name and he must track her down.
I enjoyed the new take of the classic cartoon. The actors were able to bring the story to life. It was hard not to get wrapped into the story. Everybody loves a story where the underdog overcomes challenges and makes the most of a bad situation. The character of Cinderella is very easy to want to root for. People love that she is both kind and courageous. Despite all of her obstacles, Cinderella still had a positive attitude. Because of that, she was able to escape the wrath of her evil stepmother and stepsisters. She had lost everything, yet she stuck it out and ended happy. The director was able to take the original Cinderella and make it into a movie that would attract a wider range of audiences.
Some critics did not like this movie because it didn’t seem realistic. It is a fantasy movie, but there were still some obvious flaws. I think that should be expected. The story of Cinderella was originally aimed more towards children who wouldn’t notice these small details. The director must have had some major issues to work out because of these inconsistencies. I think that when watching this movie, the viewer should look past this. After all, it is a Disney movie where the endings are always perfect. This movie is great for all ages and I highly recommend it.
