Transformers: Age of Extinction is the fourth installment of the Transformers series and the last of which will be directed by Michael Bay. Ehren Kruger is the film’s screenwriter, having written every Transformers film since Revenge of the Fallen. The film features an entirely new cast of human characters but returning Transformers include Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Lead-foot, and Brains. Despite the meager reviews from major online critics such as Rotten Tomatoes, the film was a gigantic box office success, grossing over $1 billion, and a fifth installment is already set for a 2016 release. It was called “skull-splintering insensitive” by the Guardian and currently stands as the worst-reviewed movie in the entire franchise, but studio bosses at Paramount are still holding out hope that Transformers: Age of Extinction will be named best picture at next February’s Oscars. They are also listed for many other technical awards including best sound mixing, best visual effects and best sound editing. It is clear, however, that the Rotten Tomatoes score is going to be glaring Paramount in the face for years to come. “Nothing is in disguise. Fans of loud, effects-driven action will find satisfaction, and all others need not apply,” said a movie critic. The trademark explosions and epic battles of Bay’s Transformers do nothing to excuse for the stiff acting and insensitive plot. If you really find yourself craving the alien-robot-car showdown that is Transformers, just go watch the old ones.
