Many people have said that Pitch Perfect simply looks like a college version of Glee. You do not have to be a fan of Glee to like this movie. You do not even have to know what Glee is to like this movie.
Anna Kendrick (Twilight) stars as Beca, an aspiring music producer. She promises her dad that she will try one year of college, at Barden University where he is a professor, so he will let her move to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams. He tells her that she must join a student organization on campus, and if she doesn’t like it by the end of the year, he will help her move. She decides to join the Barden Bellas, an all-girl acapella singing group led by Aubrey (Anna Camp) and Chloe (Brittany Snow). The Bellas are trying to get to a competition to face and beat their school rivals, the Treble Makers. Beca becomes annoyed with the Bellas’ rules and old school music choices and tries to revamp the style.
Of course, there is romance, comedy and even a little drama in this movie.
Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids) is an instant hit as Fat Amy. Stealing all the scenes with her brilliant comedic skills, she is arguably the best character and the most enjoyable one. Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins star as the announcers for the competition and both enjoy making raunchy comments about the performances.
Lilly (Hana Mae Lee) plays a soft-speaking member of the Bellas. Her comments are awkward and random but enough to make you laugh.
Although Fat Amy and Lilly are so entertaining, Anna Kendrick’s stellar performance is almost good enough to make someone want to watch Twilight again.
Pitch Perfect is now playing everywhere and is rated PG-13.
