Last May the sixth and final book to the Mortal Instruments series came out and with it came the end of an incredible story. Cassandra Clare wove a tale of friendship, love, and demon blood.
The six books in order of publication are City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls, and City of Heavenly Fire. They were published between March 27, 2007, and May 27, 2014.
To begin, readers are introduced to a young teenager named Clary Fray and she soon discovers that she isn’t your average human. She comes in contact with many new people who fight demons to keep humanity safe and discovers that she is one of them, one of the greatest, in fact. She has powers that many do not, and these powers keep her and her friends safe many times in the end.
Soon Clary falls in love with one of the shadow hunters, who goes by Jace Lightwood (also called Wayland, Morgenstern and Herondale). And as time goes by, they face many difficulties together. However, they always find their way back to each other.
Some of the other characters include Isabelle and Alec Lightwood, Magnus Bane and Simon. These characters are close friends to Clary, and together they embark on enough adventures to fill all six books without a dull moment.
Tameeka Winston, a sophomore at JHS, said, “I began reading these books when there were only three published, and I had to wait for the others to come out. I seriously believe it was the longest wait of my life.”
These books ensure a roller coaster ride for your feelings from Clary thinking that she and Jace were related to Simon being turned into a vampire and then back into a human to Alec and Magnus falling in love. With enough action and drama for a lifetime, this series will not disappoint.
If you are looking to read a series filled with romance and violence this series is for you. Tears and book throwing are truly a part of the experience, so be prepared.
