Electronic Arts (EA) released the newest version of its critically acclaimed Battlefield video game series, named Battlefield: Hardline. However, this new game isn’t going to take place in many a gritty, war-laden map like many Battlefield fans are accustomed to. This new video game takes the childhood favorite of “Cops and Robbers” and blows it up to a massive multiplayer scale that you can play on a select few of the next-gen consoles.
The newest iteration of the famed series focuses less on using military weapons on an actual battlefield and more on abusing military weapons on a metropolis background that represents a battlefield of sorts. In this game, players can assert the role of the law-abiding police officer or the thief in possession of millions of dollars. Multiplayer mode, or the mode most people play Battlefield for, has been given a major upgrade with five new game modes for players to discover. Hotwire mostly resembles “Cops and Robbers.” Heist sees players stopping robbers from getting away. Blood Money is a criminal’s game of “Keep Away.” Crossfire and Rescue are both rescue-like challenges. All in all, multiplayer mode is actually quite enjoyable. The maps in this new game are not large like past iterations but are perfect for the game modes presented. Many maps take advantage of complicated trails of small rooms that usually result in fast-paced shootouts against enemies. However, this seems to be the entirety of the game: shoot and kill. The main game mechanics are the same as before and still work well.
Being the second Battlefield game released on the next-gen consoles, the graphics are nice and very crisp. To make a long article short, the game is almost exactly as Battlefield fans will remember except with a few small gameplay changes. Battlefield: Hardline was released on March 17 and is available on the PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
