On February 11, 2012, pop singer Whitney Houston was found dead at a Beverly Hills hotel. She was pronounced dead at around 3:30 pm, found unconscious and face-down in a bathtub. The verdict was an intentional overdose on cocaine and ultimately drowning in the bathtub.
Flash forward almost exactly three years later to January 31, 2015. The daughter of Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown, is found unconscious, outside of Atlanta, in a bathtub at around 10:20 am by her husband. She was placed into a medically induced coma, and although there hasn’t been a determined cause for her unconsciousness, it’s impossible to ignore the parallel between her story and her mother’s.
There are concerns she may have substance abuse issues, like her mother, and the accusations only intensified when a picture was posted on a social media account of illegal paraphernalia in 2014. The caption read, “This picture may be inappropriate but I want to make a connection with you all. Don’t worry this picture isn’t recent just hear me out. Do you know what I feel? I feel strange I can’t feel any pain anymore. I don’t take any drugs as of recently. Things just happened. But then there are some situations that force me to do things and in the impact, I’ll feel pain. I did and I do. I was hurt.” She later tweeted, denying that it was she who posted the photo.
As of February 20, her overall condition may have changed but the doctors have removed her breathing tube. There hasn’t been any official update on her status, but the tracheostomy was done to protect the vocal cords and improve the chances of her lungs staying clear of fluid. Dr. Jordan S. Stephenson, an ENT specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital, stated, “I’ve seen cases where you think the patient should come out of it and they don’t. And of course there are cases where you’re telling the family the patient may never come out of it and two days later they wake up.” He also says, “Hopefully this is something that will be short for her and a speedy recovery is on the way.”
