The last installment of J.R. Tolkien’s epic trilogy has finally invaded theaters everywhere. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the series or you just like Orlando Bloom’s acrobatics (or maybe just his face) this tantalizing fantasy is a movie everyone has to see. The movie lurches viewers right into the action as Laketown is consumed by the fire of a wrathful dragon, Smaug, and the beautiful Tauriel is evacuating the remaining dwarves and Bard’s family while Bard is preoccupied with slaying the dragon by means of a wrought-iron black arrow the size of an adult’s leg. Bard becomes the celebrated hero of the Laketown people as they seek refuge in the ruins of Dale, a small town outside the Lonely Mountain Kingdom where Thorin is boarded up, irrational with “dragon sickness” and obsessively searching for the Arkenstone, a wondrous large white gem, the royal jewel of the Dwarf-kingdom of Erebor. Thorin’s dragon sickness turns him from a leader among his men into a monster who refuses to pay what he agreed to the sick and homeless people of Laketown, provoking Thranduil’s elven army to attack. Tauriel travels to investigate Mount Gundabad and the impending attack of orcs with Legolas. None of the plot was forsaken, despite the fact that most viewers were oooh-ing over the elvish king as he rode into battle, silver hair flowing out behind him like a cape of stars on the back of a majestic stag beheading six orcish warriors in a single sweep of his ornate steel. The gut-wrenching finale had many viewers with their eyes glued to the screen and their hands white-knuckling the armrest. Viewers saw the noble end to many of their devote heroes and the annihilation of the evil orcs while subtly setting up the main adversary for the Lord of the Rings series, which all viewers immediately had the insatiable longing to re-read or re-watch. This film kept viewers aptly enthralled while being entertained by their favorite fantasy world and the last story of Tolkien’s new to the silver screen.
