Nintendo released the newest couple of Pokémon games on November 21. These new games are not sequels, but rereleases of the series on a newer console. Named after a famous quote, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are the newest games in the giant franchise.
One might wonder, “Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire? Those are some weird names for video games!” The names might be strange, but they do serve a purpose. As mentioned before, these games are rereleases. The original games that the newer versions are based off of were called Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. For some reason, Nintendo loved naming Pokémon games after precious gems. The reason for Alpha and Omega placed in front of Ruby and Sapphire was just for the need of new titles. For some reason, Nintendo loved naming coupled games as opposites. Therefore, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were chosen as names for the newest Pokémon games. ORAS is just the abbreviation the games go as.
Pokémon is one of few franchises to remain popular over a generational gap. With new fans to introduce to the series, Nintendo decided to rerelease older versions of the game with more a modern look and feel. Fans of the series might recognize these games as remakes of the Hoenn region or the third generation of Pokémon from the early 2000s.
This new game brings 3D graphics and higher resolution to improve the Game Boy Advance title. Along with these, players, or trainers as many like to be called, are able to fly, ride, or surf on their Pokémon to get to places quickly. Mega Evolutions, a completely overpowered version of a Pokémon, are back in this game for trainers to either use wisely or completely waste. All in all, it’s the old-fashioned classic that fans will remember with the new-fangled doodads that make the newer games intricate adventures.
