Throughout the years, television has become increasingly popular. From black and white to color. From poor quality to high definition. And from two dimension to three dimension. 96.7% of people have modern television in their homes. However, some people are not as into watching television as others. Some people prefer books.
Whether you prefer television over books is your opinion. But should we reduce the amount of television watched to preserve the creativity of children? Many parents would say yes, but when they realize that they would have to read the daily news rather than watch it, they might change their minds.
Quentin Knotts, a JHS student, said, “If it were my child and it were up to me then yes I would choose my child’s well-being over television. I want my child to be as smart as he/she can possibly be.” But when asked if he preferred books over television, he chose television.
Now that television has better graphics and better quality in general, more and more people have been moving from books to television. Why use the energy to conjure up the scene when it could be right in front of you?
Books have been around for hundreds and even thousands of years. They’ve been banned, loved, and basically worshiped. These books would include The Color Purple, The Help, and the Bible. Books are also to starting become involved with technology. Now rather than carry around books, readers can carry around a small Nook, Kindle, or iPad. These pieces of technology can hold hundreds of books. This allows book lovers to carry many books without the struggle of carrying the sometimes heavy load of real books.
All the movies in the world that we watch on our TVs at home had to come from somewhere. Most movies made came from books such as Harry Potter, The Help, The Chronicles of Narnia, even the Bible. Without these books most of us wouldn’t be able to watch our favorite movies or TV shows.
Whether you prefer books over television or vice versa is all just an opinion. Books, short stories, poems, TV shows, movies, and documentaries all come from one similar source of creativity. All that matters is how you apply it in the world.
