This movie is about unconditional love and happiness between two people. “Everyone wanted to believe that endless love was possible. She’d believed in it once, too, back when she was eighteen.”
It starts out with former high school sweethearts Amanda Collier, played by Michelle Monaghan, and Dawson Cole, played by James Marsden, who fell deeply, irrevocably in love. They reunite after many years when they return to visit their small hometown. Something awful happens for one of them to save the other which is what tears them apart when they were younger. Out of the love they have for one another, one of them gives up years of life. They meet again twenty-five years after the incident. When they do finally meet again, of course, it’s slow but still love at first sight. It’s like their love never ended.
This movie is full of decisions between two younger people then when they’re older. All the problems they’ll have to face they must face together. This movie gives an idea of what some people will do for true love; the lengths they would go to help that person they care so deeply for. It shows how young love can be hard but it’s possible and even more that when you think you’ve lost someone you don’t always; love finds its way back to those who are destined to be together.
The movie has all the feelings of happiness and heartache all in one, but it’s got the mood of joy and adventure. I do like the theme of young and old love lasting as well for this movie. It brings different thoughts and moments and the changes between these two people.
