The Mortal Instruments series has been a whirlwind, and May 27, 2014, the last book will be released. Sebastian (Jonathan Morgenstern) is on the loose and is going to start a war yet again. It is up to Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends to stop him. Nothing in the world can defeat Sebastian. They have tried to ask Raziel for help, even a demon, so how will they finally defeat the infamous Jonathan Morgenstern for good?
The final book’s details have been kept in secrecy, but Cassandra Clare has said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “There is a death of a major character really early on in the book that I think will surprise people. And there are two weddings.” The anticipation to know which of the characters, that all fans have grown to love in the past five books, will die is mind consuming. The two weddings that Cassandra mentioned can only be guessed as Luke and Jocelyn’s since they didn’t marry in City of Lost Souls. The other wedding is unpredictable.
The story does not end here though, Cassandra Clare is working on a follow up series from the Mortal Instruments called The Dark Artifices. It is five years after the events in Mortal Instruments, and the major characters are not the same. It will be a trilogy. The first book, Lady Midnight will be published in 2015.
The Mortal Instruments will be finished, but what will it cost Clary to defeat her brother or Jace, to try to help her? Who will be lost? How will the story end?
