The hype living up to the sequel of the cult comedy Anchorman has been several long years in the running. Rumors of the second movie began shortly after the enormous popularity of the first movie. It would only be natural that people would demand a sequel to a movie that was, “so good, but completely filling.” However these rumors weren’t confirmed until the first teaser was released featuring the News Channel 4 cast talking about the release of their new movie. No release date was stated but the anticipation would finally reach its height.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues hit theaters on December 18, 2013. The movie picks up a few years after the end of the first movie. Ron and his now wife, Veronica, are network news anchors at a station in New York. When Veronica is promoted and Ron is fired he is devastated and moves back to his hometown of San Diego. After a long period of isolation Ron is asked to join a new network news channel opening in New York, the world’s first 24 hour news station. Thus Ron Burgundy finds himself once again doing what he was born to do, “have salon quality hair and read the news.”
If you loved the original Anchorman your expectations for the sequel may be quite high. If you didn’t love the original Anchorman you’re most likely a communist and shouldn’t live in America anyway. Anchorman 2 doesn’t quite live up to the legend set by its cult classic prequel but still makes for a hilarious and of course, infinitely quotable, comedy. Bringing back many feelings of nostalgia from the first move with returning scenes done bigger and more dramatic Anchorman 2 tries its best to live up to the impossible standard set by the original film. However the film falls just short of being a legend itself. Anchorman 2 is a great movie but one thing is for sure, it doesn’t quite live up the cult comedy legend that came before.
