This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Jacksonville High School will perform the fall play called The Actor’s Nightmare. The show is a little over thirty minutes long and starts at 7:30 p.m. every night. Opening night, December 5, will have a deaf interpreter and tickets for the show can be purchased for $5 at the door.
The play is about three high school students, Bobbi, Danni and Christina, who share the same bad dreams of forgetting their lines, looking foolish on stage, forgetting their monologues for a big audition, or being in a really bad play where they don’t remember what it’s about or who’s in it. These characters stumble through ridiculous scenarios by improvising and freaking out. Chaos and catastrophe is the norm as they deal with their fears and some outrageously weird circumstances. In the end, the audience may be relieved to find everything to be a vivid nightmare or a bad dream that comes to life.
Molly McGiles, a senior who plays the role of Olivia, said the play is “…hilarious, super cute, and funny.” She also says that anyone who is considering coming to the play definitely should. “If you like to laugh you should come,” she commented. Molly also said that the whole experience has been “amazing” and that everyone should get the chance to experience theater in any way.
Mrs. Cervi, the German teacher and director of The Actor’s Nightmare, stated that preparing for opening night has been “hectic” but that everyone should come see the show “for a laugh.” She also commented, “The cast and crew have worked very hard. Come support their effort!”
Chelsea Achord, a senior who is Mrs. Cervi’s assistant director, also applauded the cast’s hard work. She said, “I’ve never seen a cast so devoted…” Chelsea also said that anyone interested in coming to the show should remember that “quality is better than quantity; although the play is short we have a great cast and we will pull it off.” She also cautioned anyone thinking about coming to the show to have an open mind and to “Beware, expect the unexpected!”
The show is hilarious and absurdly funny. The cast members have brought their personal ideas and creative interpretations to their own characters making this show unique. The story is fast-paced and clever, and its peculiarities will make the audience question what a rubber duck really could do. If you’re ready for a fun night filled with laughter then you should come see The Actor’s Nightmare this weekend.
