The Maze Runner is the first book to a trilogy by James Dashner. A group of boys have no memories of people in their lives including themselves and are put in a maze with what seems like no solution. Haunted by the massive creatures called Grievers that prowl the maze, they take refuge in an area which they call the Glade. Every month a new boy (called a Greenie) comes through The Box, and supplies come every week.
A boy comes on schedule named Thomas, but he seems different. He’s not scared like the other boys were at first. The next day when a girl comes through The Box and Thomas breaks the number one rule that night, everything seems to change in the place these boys and now a girl call home.
This book is an interesting read and shows how when it comes to it you either have the strength and will to survive or you break under the pressure. The Maze Runner is a book that captures your attention. It shows how a group of teenage boys survive in an odd situation without knowledge of how their lives were before; it makes the reader think about what it would really take to go through something like that, not just physically but mentally and emotionally. Readers aren’t able to get a real sense of the characters’ story before, but readers are able to see how the characters are and what they are willing to do.
James Dashner wrote this book so that readers will think about what a person is willing to do to survive and what they will go through physically and morally to get through it. The Maze Runner is a book that makes you think what you would do if you were in that situation. I would recommend this book to anyone. It is a story that is worth the time.
