In a 2009 interview with MTV, Pete Wentz stated, “It’s weird because, if you look it up in the dictionary, ‘hiatus’ is a synonym for ‘a break.’ We’re on a break that doesn’t have a definite ending. There’s no ending date. I’m making a new term for it: we’re decompressing right now.” Four years after this interview, the band is planning a new album and a tour, just in time for the tenth anniversary of their debut album, Take This to Your Grave.
Fall Out Boy, formed in 2001, is made up by four members: vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley.
After the announcement of the hiatus, the band members started working on side projects. Stump began to work on a solo album entitled Soul Punk. Wentz teamed up with singer Bebe Rexha and began the ska/electropop band Black Cards. Trohman and Hurley teamed up with Keith Buckley and Josh Newton from Every Time I Die and Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax to create a heavy metal group called The Damned Things.
These were all projects the boys don’t think they would have been able to pursue while working together as Fall Out Boy. They also felt overworked from the band’s continuous writing, recording, and touring schedule.
On February 4, 2013, Fall Out Boy fans everywhere were excited to hear that the band had come back together and even released a new song “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark.” Along with the release of this song, they also announced a tour planned for this summer and announced their new album Save Rock and Roll which will be available on May 6.
