A chance meeting where boy meets girl. Within a two week time span, they are in love. Sound reminiscent of Dear John?
Boy and girl share the greatest love story but in a tragic twist of events, girl loses memory of it all and so boy works his magic to jumpstart her memory; could it be the plot of The Notebook? None of the above!
All of this drama intertwines into new movie, The Vow, now playing. This movie has more in common with Nicholas Spark’s beloved tales than just the story lines. It also uses the same main actors!
Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) is paired with Dear John’s Channing Tatum in this new insta-classic love story. Unfortunately, the movie is just that, a second-rate version of two of the most admired films of the romantic genre, all in all, earning it a mere two and a half out of five stars.
Based on true events, The Vow chronicles the life and love of Paige (McAdams) and Leo (Tatum) who each promise to love one another no matter what obstacles are thrown their way. This vow is put to the ultimate test after a traumatizing car accident leaves Paige devoid of any memory of Leo and every other aspect of her past five years. But Leo, true to his word, puts all his faith into making his wife fall in love with him all over again.
However, will The Vow follow Dear John or The Notebook with a happily never or ever after? I suppose the answer to that lies in whether one believes history really can repeat itself.
