Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

Every year in April, Coachella combines some of the world’s most famous artists and bands while also incorporating amazing art installations.  Held at the Empire Club in Indio, California, the music festival consists of five main stages known as the Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and the Sahara Tent. Coachella originally started from a dispute between Ticketmaster and the band Pearl Jam in 1993.  Pearl Jam claimed that Ticketmaster was financially targeting fans and artists alike, and the band began looking for alternative options without Ticketmaster agreements for their tour.  They ended up settling with the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California, and were amazed with their successful turnout.  The venue had proven to be sufficient for concerts and eventually held the first Coachella festival in 1999.  Due to the festival’s overwhelming success, the festival has forged into one of the most popular music festivals to this day.  Each year Coachella attracts over 579,000 people and has become increasingly popular over all forms of social media.  Many famous celebrities attend the event, making the festival even more desirable.  However, because of its popularity, Coachella tickets must be purchased at least 6 to 7 months prior to the event.

Genres of music held at Coachella can vary from rock, indie, electronica, and hip hop.  This year Coachella took place on the weekend of April 15-17 and April 22-24, hosting artists such as Guns n’ Roses, Rhianna, Kanye, A$AP Rocky, G-Eazy, The Chainsmokers, Skrillex, Sam Smith, and many, many more.  Coachella usually releases the main lineup to the public; however, they include several surprise performers that are not included in the lineup.  This makes the festival even more unique since one never quite knows who going to be performing.
