Every Monday and Wednesday, a small group of juniors gather together with Mrs. Beard and Mr. Hall in room 805 to plan prom. The prom committee includes Blaire Long, Erin Lind, Lydia Beard, Marrion Ore, and Hayley Rockwell. The majority of the meetings last only until 4 pm and would welcome any new members, though Erin Lind says, “We could definitely use some more help but it is nice having a small group too because you don’t have to deal with a room full of opinions.”
“We are avidly preparing for prom,” Lydia Beard quoted. “The prom committee hopes to make this year’s prom successful. Since our theme is “Moonlight Masquerade,” we plan to create the most authentic experience possible.” Joining the meeting on April 6, 2015, I was excited to see what had been created so far. Bundles of tulle, feathers, and sequins were all laid about to experience the elegant feel the prom committee is trying to recreate. The prom’s colors will almost have a Phantom of the Opera feeling with the colors of black, gold, white, and maroon. “We’ve actually planned the majority of the prom. We reserved the DJ and have ordered cupcakes and have ‘Pinterest-planned’ our butts off,” Blaire states. “Now we are just working on creating decorations to set the right mood for prom. I was amazed when I joined to see all that can be done with a hot glue gun and some tulle fabric.”
The 2015 prom will be held at Hamilton’s in Jacksonville in their large ball room. Prom starts at 8 pm and will end at 11:00, with coronation being at 10 pm. The DJ is Jonathan from Music Source in Springfield and cupcakes and cookies are being supplied from Oh For Goodness Cakes! Tickets became available beginning April 13th and are available before and after school and during lunch in the attendance office. Tickets are $10.
