At Jacksonville High School, as well as other schools around the country, we have an organization called FFA. As a part of joining the organization of FFA, there are many things that can be accomplished and earned while participating.
There are a series of classes offered at JHS that are not only developed and taught for educational purposes but to help the students of JHS become engaged in extracurricular activities. Mr. Kenneth Dufelmeier is the leader/advisor of FFA here and directs the members of FFA to success. In this fine organization, their national mission statement is an ongoing success builder that shapes their lives. FFA is a national youth organization that makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Their emblem is a sign that corn has historically served as the foundation crop of American agriculture, and their emblem also symbolizes unity. The rising sun signifies progress and holds a promise that tomorrow will bring a new day glowing with opportunity. The plow signifies labor and tillage of the soil, the backbone of agriculture and the historic foundation of our country’s strength. The eagle is a national symbol which serves as a reminder of our freedom and ability to explore new horizons for the future of agriculture. The owl, long recognized for its wisdom, symbolizes the knowledge required to be successful in the industry of agriculture. All members honor the dress code system, as they proudly wear national blue and corn gold, which represents our nation’s beautiful flag and the sweet golden fields of ripened corn.
Through agricultural education, students are provided opportunities for leadership development, personal growth and career success. Agricultural education instruction is delivered through three major components that make up everything involved with agriculture. Classroom/laboratory instruction, supervised agricultural experience programs, and student leadership organizations make up the agriculture system.
Throughout this entire organization, there are many activities, future careers, and phenomenal opportunities that can be experienced while being an FFA member. At our school, we have many students actively involved in FFA who are looking to better themselves and their future.
Shaping the future is something that is being taught today through general classes in school and having the opportunity to join FFA. Take the initiative to do something to start your future by talking to Dufelmeier and becoming a part of FFA!
