Mrs. Hartsook’s Adult Living class has come up with a great way to give back to the community. The class has decided to run a school Food drive to help out the Food Bank here in town.
The idea was brought up by the unit that the class recently finished called “Support your Community”. After finishing this unit the class discussed citizenship and the importance of helping others.
The goal of the drive is to be able to fill the showcase in the main hallway. The Food Drive starts on October 29th and runs all the way to November 9th. The Food Bank asked that the class collect food items that can be used for Thanksgiving like instant mashed potatoes, stuffing, and so on.
In addition to the school food drive, the class also collected canned food at the last football game. The Adult Living class is also selling baked cookies during the lunch periods to purchase food as well.
This class is trying to disprove the negative comments that the community hears about teenagers by showing that a majority of teenagers have a positive influence on the community.
