With a new school year come changes to the Crimson Pride program, a program that rewards students with incentives based on positive academic and behavioral performances. According to Mrs. Dillard, one of the assistant principal of JHS, these changes were a long time in the making. When asked why these changes to the Crimson Pride program were made, Mrs. Dillard pointed to student involvement and input as one of the major deciding factors for the change.
On May 29th, a group of JHS students attended the PBIS (Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports) meeting at Turner in order to give the PBIS committee students’ perspective on the possible changes that were going to happen throughout the district. The students who met with the PBIS committee are as follows: David Albers, Jennie Stare, Mitchell Karr, Adam Enz, Austin Hunter, Katie Linder, and Hannah Scobbie.
The majority of the changes that were made were to various aspects of the Crimson Pride program, such as rewards and requirements. Orange Level, which previously had a GPA requirement of 1.0, now has a GPA requirement of 1.5. Red Level has also received a change in the number of tardies per term. It is now possible to receive one tardy per term and still maintain Red Level.
Only full-time students will be able to earn exam exemptions from JHS. According to Mrs. Dillard, this problem arose last year when part-time students who attended JHS for only part of the day were able to exempt from all of their exams. Exam exemptions from terms 4 and 8 will also roll over into the following semester but with a maximum of 3 exemptions per student per semester.
Students who are planning to attend prom will also need to be on term for at least two of the three terms preceding prom (5, 6, or 7).
“We are excited about these changes and believe that they are positive changes to an already successful program,” said Mrs. Dillard.
