  • "Journalism allows its readers to witness history; fiction gives its readers an opportunity to live it." - John Hersey
  • "If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be."

Claire Van Aken, Staff Writer

Claire Van Aken is a junior at Jacksonville High School this year. She is back for her second year with the Crimson J. She is a member of the Jacksonville J’ettes, where she serves as a 2019-2020 co-captain. She is also a committed dancer at Sara’s Studio of Dance. Aside from dancing, she enjoys taking pictures, traveling, and of course, writing. Her favorite subjects in school are English, but only with Mrs. Symons, and Journalism, also only with Mrs. Symons. Outside of school, you can find her watching her favorite Netflix series, doing her religious skin care routine, or online shopping even though she’s not supposed to. After high school, Claire hopes to become a journalist or interior designer. Claire is excited to start her second year at the Crimson J because it gives her a creative outlet to write informative, persuasive, and entertaining pieces for her readers. You can expect lots of updates on the dance teams, football games, homecoming events, and reviews on Netflix when browsing her articles. Claire hopes to create and write much interesting and worthy content this year!
