This upcoming NBA season is one to look forward to as both an NBA fan and especially as a Bulls fan. Midway through the 2020-21 season, the Bulls traded for all-star center NIkola Vucevic and got rid of Otto Porter, Jr. ‘s contract allowing more cap space for the off-season. During the off-season, the Bulls made some big moves signing Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, and acquiring DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade deal with the Spurs.
For the first time in a few years, Bulls fans actually have something to look forward to this season. Ever since Derrick Rose tore his ACL during the 2012 playoffs, the Bulls have never looked the same. They have stayed a reliable playoff team up until the 2017 off-season when they traded away their star player in Jimmy Butler. In return for Jimmy, the Bulls acquired Zach Lavine and the 7th pick which became Lauri Markkanen. Zach has filled the role as the go-to guy on the Bulls the past few seasons, but Lauri has been disappointing to say the least. During this past off-season, Lauri was involved in a 3-team sign-and-trade deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Portland Trailblazers in which the Bulls got Derrick Jones, Jr. and a future first-round pick in return for Markkanen.
The Bulls have missed the playoffs for the past four seasons, but this year looks like it could be different. With new head coach Billy Donovan and an all new team, most people project the Bulls making the 5th or 6th seed in the East. They aren’t heavy title contenders, but they are sure to make the playoffs and give the Bulls franchise some much needed hope. The future looks very bright for this young team and hopefully they can bring themselves back to the success of the Michael Jordan era.
