Crimsons derail the Railsplitters at Homecoming

Last Friday the Jacksonville Crimsons celebrated their Homecoming with a runaway win against the Lincoln Railsplitters who are in their last year of playing in the CS8 conference. During this game, receiver James White broke the CS8 record for receiving yards and catches. The final score of the game was 42-0 which makes for Jacksonville’s second shutout of the year, the first against Decatur MacArthur.

The game kicked off with an early touchdown pass by Avery Dugan to Adam Hillis. From there, the Crimson defense took over and stopped the Rail-splitters. It was an impressive night for the young quarterback who threw three touchdowns and had no turnovers.

The offensive-line had an astounding game and held the Lincoln defense to zero sacks. They were a stopping force against the much smaller Lincoln defensive-line. Behind them, the running back Marquel White ran for three touchdowns.

Defensively, the Crimsons had an impressive night giving up zero touchdowns to the Railsplitters and forcing multiple turnovers. Linebacker Adam Hillis and outside linebacker Klay Wood seemed to fly all over the field and put an end to any momentum Lincoln began to gain.

This is Lincoln’s last year in the CS8 conference. The past years for this team have not been very successful, and they will be headed to play in the Apollo conference where former CS8 member Taylorville also plays.

It should be mentioned as well that after halftime it was up to the younger Crimsons to hold onto the shutout and they did so very well. Young linebackers Gavin Smith and Jonah Pattie held onto the goose egg by effectively leading the young defense. Freshman quarterback Justin Cummins had an impressive look for his first time being on the field as a varsity Crimson.

The win brought the Crimsons to 3-3. They will play heated rival Chatham this week.
