This past Friday, May 9, the Jacksonville Crimsons baseball team played an exhibition game at Busch Stadium where the St. Louis Cardinals play. Senior Dustin Woodcock called this opportunity “A once in a lifetime chance” that he will forever remember. Woodcock also stated, “Playing on the field of the major league team I like was a dream come true.”
The Crimsons faced Waterloo in a nine inning game where both the varsity and JV squads got playing time. Jacksonville defeated Waterloo 12-3 with Woodcock as the winning pitcher. Jacksonville hit .438 as a team in the game. Klay Wood, Adam Hillis, Braxton Criss, Tyler Ring, Dustin Woodcock, Clayton Werries, and Collin Ryals all had a hit in the game. Justin Renoud and Kody Wood each had two hits apiece, with Kody Wood hitting two triples. Senior Floyd Lomelino went three for four at the plate.
Jacksonville threw six different pitchers in the game. Adam Hillis, Kody Wood and Floyd Lomelino all threw a scoreless inning in the Crimson victory. Seniors Clayton Werries and Justin Renoud both threw in the game as well.
This victory gave the Crimsons a record of 21 wins and 7 losses. JHS looks to finish strong in the regular season as they gear up for the regional.
