The time has come for scary vampires and creepy ghosts to roam the streets. It is one of my favorite holidays ever: Halloween.
This time of year has always been my one of favorites because I love how scared some people can get around this time. I also love the creativity of people when I see their costumes. All of them look so interesting, and I can tell how much thought was put into them. It’s cool to see what the outcome of the costume is.
All of my costumes were formed from my imagination. I can vaguely remember some of my more interesting costumes from when I was younger. One year I was a bride then another year a vampire’s bride. I also dressed up as a pajama girl as a theme costume with some of my friends. The funniest thing I ever dressed up as was a Christmas tree. That costume was definitely not my idea; I was forced into that.
One of the best things about Halloween is getting all that candy. I mean, honestly, who doesn’t love to get free candy?
Truthfully there is a lot about Halloween I love, but what I love most is the holiday’s origins. Halloween originated from the Celts about 2,000 years ago in what is modern day Ireland, United Kingdom, and northern France.
My family is from that region and that’s part of the reason why I like it, but the other part is because it amazes me how much we, as Americans, have changed the holiday to fit our desires. For instance, we dress up for candy whereas back then they dressed up for protection against the spirits that were said to be roaming around.
This quote by Nina Willis Walter is a good example of how I feel about Halloween, “The witches fly Across the sky, The owls go, ‘Who? Who? Who?’ The black cats yowl And green ghosts howl, ‘Scary Halloween to you!’”
