Global traveling, exotic places, memories that last a lifetime, educational experience. All of these things are part of the People to People student ambassador program.
This program was founded by former president Dwight D. Eisenhower over 50 years ago. Although he proposed the idea in 1956, the first trip didn’t happen until 1962. Student Ambassadors has continued ever since.
Although there is a Student Ambassador program, this program also provides another Ambassador program called the Leadership Ambassadors. Both programs offer an excellent educational and fundamental experience.
The mission statement on their website (PeopletoPeople.com) says a lot about the program and what they wish to offer people. Our Mission: to bridge cultural and political borders through education and exchange, creating global citizens and making the world a better place for future generations.
Some of the interesting places that the Ambassadors travel to are England, Australia, Italy, France and South Africa. They go on these trips during the summer, but preparation starts much earlier. There are two ways for teens to become a Student Ambassador. The program is offered to kids who are in 5th-12th grade and its even offered for college students as well.
Preparations begin with the admission of the Ambassadors. Some people are nominated and others just apply on the website. Applicants have to go through an interview process, and they must submit three recommendations. If nominated, applicants only have to submit two recommendations. Next, applicants have to meet with the program leader for an interview, and if they get through the selection process, they go to the orientation meeting. The meeting explains in great detail what exactly will be happening on the trip and what participants will be doing.
People to People is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who wants to expand horizons and wants to make a difference in the world. Anyone who is truly interested should visit the homepage PeopletoPeople.com/student ambassadors and see everything that this program has to offer.
