The Hunger Games is a thrilling series that has people of all ages drawn to it. After a long three years since the original Hunger Games came out in theaters in March 2012, part one of the final movie, Mockingjay, finally made its debut on November 21, 2014. At the start of the release, the movie was not very profitable compared to the first two movies, Hunger Games and Catching Fire. In fact, it was over 20% below these first two movies. Mockingjay was estimated to reach about $130 million to $150 million but reached only $125 million. These are the numbers from when Mockingjay first released. Over Thanksgiving break, it was believed to pull in another $35 million.
Despite its rather low franchise, Mockingjay is packed full with drama, action, and adventure. Staring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Mockingjay has continued to set the world on fire. Part 1 exceeds in capturing Katniss’ personality as a compassionate sister, yet a fierce, rebel warrior and leader. It also continues the dramatic love conflict between Katniss, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), and Gale (Liam Hemsworth). Mockingjay is drastically different from the original Hunger Games and 2013’s Catching Fire. Mockingjay has stepped out of the fighting arena into a real-life war between District 13 and The Capital. This revolution starts with the capture of Peeta Mallark by District 13. Katniss realizes that the president of The Capital, Snow, has hijacked Peeta’s memory. With this known, the film ends in a cliff-hanger leaving the audience wanting more.
Overall, Part 1 of Mockingjay has captured the attention of many people of all ages. After watching this movie, anyone is sure to come back again for Part 2 of this electrifying film.
