Taylor Swift, an American singer and song-writer, recently released a biography movie on Netflix called Miss Americana. Since 2006, when Taylor released her first song and album, she has been known to use her life experiences as inspiration for her songs. Her career began in 2006 with her first hit single “Tim McGraw.” From then until 2008, she wrote “Should’ve said No,” “Teardrops on my Guitar,” “Our Song,” and “Picture to Burn,” some of which were near the top of the Billboard Top 100 Song chart. In late 2008, she released her second album, Fearless. With this album, she went on her first tour-the Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless Tour. Since then, Swift has released many new albums, including Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, and Lover. She has also collaborated with other his songwriters including Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Miley Cyrus for Hannah Montana: The Movie, and the Rolling Stones. Taylor has received many Grammy nominations and won ten Grammys, the first one in 2009.

January 31, 2020 marked the release of her new movie Miss Americana. In this documentary, she opens up about the downside of living life so openly to the public and how her almost 15 years of singing and songwriting has affected her mental and physical health. The documentary film delves into her past battle with an eating disorder, her sexual assault trial, dealing with her mother’s cancer diagnosis, and her decision to make her political views more public. After its release, the film became the highest-rated Netflix original biographical documentary film created by an artist in IMDb history.

For me, I have enjoyed Taylor Swift’s older albums more than her more recent albums and songs. To be honest, I kind of forgot about Taylor Swift completely except for the occasion when one of her old songs comes on my playlist shuffle. However, I really enjoyed this movie. She seemed to be very open and honest with the public, which is hard to come by with celebrities and people in general these days. This documentary also shocked me because I would have never guessed that Taylor Swift had experienced all of these things. It goes to show that you never really know what goes on behind closed doors. I think this film documentary will be a catalyst for more people in the public eye to be more open with their audience and supporters because they really are just like us.
