Mean Girls musical spreads like a wildfire

While Regina George may have believed that “fetch” will never happen, it certainly seems that Gretchen Wieners finally made it popular since the only word that can describe the musical Mean Girls (written by Tina Fey and Directed by Casey Nicholaw) is fetch. Based on the hit 2004 movie comedy Mean Girls, this musical has it all: choreography (also by Casey Nicholaw), an original score (by Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin), seats next to the it-crowd, and the whole Broadway experience. Its presence will bless the August Wilson Theatre until May 2020 with Renee Rap as Regina George, Erika Henningsen as Cady Heron, Krystina Alabado as Gretchen Wieners, Kate Rockwell as Karen Smith, Barrett Wilbert Weed as Janis Sarkisian, and Grey Henson as Damian Hubbard.

The Mean Girls musical may already be halfway through its Broadway run, but its National Tour featuring a separate cast debuted on September 21 of this year. As of now, the Mean Girls tour is scheduled to be in Chicago, Illinois, at Nederlander Theatre; tickets are on sale now $31.50 (when bought in advance) for shows between December 25, 2019 and January 26, 2020. It will continue to hit major cities in most states until August 2020; the tour cast will perform their last shows in Portland, Oregon.

Those starring in the National Tour of Mean Girls include Danielle Wade as Cady Heron, Megan Masako Haley as Gretchen Wieners, Jonalyn Saxer as Karen Smith, Mary Kate Morrissey as Janis Sarkisian, Eric Huffman as Damian Hubbard, and suddenly popular Mariah Rose Faith as the iconic Regina George. Mariah Rose Faith’s abrupt fame on social platforms can be immensely attributed to two things: her viral cover of “Dead Girl Walking” from Heathers: the Musical and her hit roles in the most recent Starkid production The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals. While Team Starkid has been around since its 2009 comedy A Very Potter Musical (starring Glee actor Darren Criss), Mariah Rose Faith has only recently joined the Youtube and California-based Theatre Troupe; she ultimately had to resign from her roles in The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals sequel Black Friday to pursue her exciting role of Regina George during the Mean Girls National Tour.
