Popular American Idol Star Extends Broadway Run

Acclaimed recording artist, actress, and American Idol alum Jordin Sparks has made her debut in the Tony Award winning Broadway show Waitress and shines brighter than the lighting cues. Despite some doubts about how her performance would fare from some die hard fans of the show, Sparks has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. To fans of Sparks specifically, this has come as no shock.

Sparks originally made her Broadway debut in Lin Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights in 2010 shortly after winning the reality competition show American Idol in 2007. Now, for a limited time Sparks has returned to the Great White Way as the lead role in Waitress. The pressure was on for Sparks to breathe the same life into Jenna Hunterson, a young waitress at a diner who falls pregnant and embarks on a self-discovery journey, as many other award winning actresses such as Sara Bareilles and Jessie Mueller have. The challenge proved to be no obstacle for her as she stuns as the protagonist with her comedic timing, emotional portrayal, and incredible vocal runs. With fantastic actors at her side and famed songs to make her own, Sparks perfectly captures the spirit of Jenna while still leaving her own mark.

Beginning in September, Sparks was slated to end her engagement in October. However, her run at the diner has been extended to November 24. Everyone should take any chance they have to witness Jordin Sparks’s outstanding performance before it is too late. It is a must see for Broadway fans!
