Boy Meets World creator Michael Jacobs is back with a sequel, Girl Meets World. The surprise was just revealed a couple weeks ago and shocked a generation.
Girl Meets World is still in development with the pilot episode being filmed in February. Both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel have officially signed on for the parent roles of the show, revealing it on Twitter. Ben Savage tweeted, “I’m going to be a father! Well, on TV at least. The Boy Meets World sequel is officially happening!”
When asked what she thinks about the show being redone and returning, senior Natalie Flynn said “I think it’s going to be hard to tackle the classic, but I think bringing back old characters will make it appeal to all ages.”
This news has proved to be just as nerve-wracking as it is exciting. Many fans of the original show are wondering what this new show will be like.
The show will focus around Cory and Topanga’s 13-year-old daughter, Riley. The couple also has a 14-year-old son named Elliot, who enjoys picking on his little sister. Both kids are still uncast. It is unaware what Topanga’s career is but it was revealed that Cory followed in fellow teacher George Feeny’s footsteps and became a seventh grade teacher himself. And of course, what would Girl Meets World be without a “Shawn Hunter” of the show? Maya, who is still uncast, is Riley’s troublesome best friend and one of Cory’s students.
It isn’t clear where the series will take place yet. At the end of Boy Meets World, Cory and Topanga moved to New York with Cory’s brother Eric and his best friend Shawn. They could still live there or Cory and Topanga could have moved back to Philadelphia where their parents and Mr. Feeny reside.
As of now, it’s unknown whether any more of the original cast members will be included in Girl Meets World. It would be difficult to incorporate any of them if the series doesn’t take place in Philadelphia or nearby.
Although the exciting news was just recently released, fans will have to wait a few months to watch the pilot episode on the Disney Channel. After that the producers will still have to decide if they want to keep the series going.
