Madrigals: A dinner and a show

Mary Rose Prewitt, Staff Writer

In a month, the most elite singing group from Jacksonville High School will take to the stage and go back in time to the legacies of kings and queens and knights rescuing ladies in distress. Directed by Christine Smith, the madrigals and other vocalists perform a play with the madrigals sing at certain points during the show. A dinner is served and guests are encouraged to send messages to other people at other tables during down times in between songs and acts.

Along with the vocal songs and the acts that JHS thespians put on, the food and drink is served to the audience with a song. In a sense, the audience a part of the performance, a part of the royal court watching a play or jest while at a feast that the king and queen are putting on. It’s very much like an hour or so of immersion into a different  time, when kings and queens reigned.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime performance to see this set of talented Jacksonville High School vocalists perform a medieval show; that is old school plays and pageantry at its finest. This is not a performance that you see everyday; this is one that the audience will treasure for years to come. This show only comes once a year, so you must get your tickets soon to be able to see this awesome performance! The performances take place in the JHS cafeteria and the dates are Saturday, February 4 at 5 PM and the following Sunday at 2:00 in the afternoon. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children (3-11 years). Tickets can be purchased from Fred and Amy Blanford via email AJANDFJ@gmail.com or by phone at 217-855-0783.
