When in Germany

Madison Cook, staff writer

At the end of every school year,  students from Jacksonville High School go to Germany much like when the German students come here to America in the fall. One of the students that was able to go over to Germany was Jacksonville’s very own Katheryn Zink. Katheryn was asked what her favorite part of her trip was and she said during the trip they spent a weekend in Berlin where she visited the Mall of Berlin and saw the East Side gallery. Katheryn was asked to describe some things they have that aren’t available here or vice versa. She said there weren’t many things that were in Jacksonville that weren’t over there. However, she did say they do have different outlets and giant sections of bike racks. Katheryn said there were many activities to do while she was there. She took the time to describe some of them. For example, she said they have “a ton of super cool things like a ten-mile bike ride, going to cities such as Luneburg and Hamburg, and going to Heide park (a crazy bomb amusement park). Katheryn, along with the other students, was there three weeks, which is a long time to be away from home. Katheryn said what she misses most is her host family, especially Melanie, her host sister, and Inken, a girl she became great friends with. She also says that she misses German bread. If Katheryn could go back, she said, “ YES! I want to go back more than anything.” Katheryn was full of enthusiasm, which she often is! Part of what was so great about interviewing her was her bubbly personality and easy going attitude towards almost everything. It was such a pleasure to interview her.
