J’ette tryouts officially began as of April 13th. Girls trying out for J’ettes must complete a set of strict requirements in order to score well. One of these requirements that differs from any other sports team here at JHS is the “Teacher Form.” Each girl must turn in five forms to select teachers. These forms include information on attentiveness, grades, punctuality, etc. With this information given, the coaches are able to determine how a girl performs not only on the dance floor but also in the classroom. The teacher forms contribute to about one third of the total score. Acceptance is also determined upon dance ability, technique, choreography, specific skills, and the ability to learn things quickly as well as the ability to entertain. These requirements will be determined at each tryout clinic. There are a total of three clinics plus the final tryout. At the final tryout the girls will be paired up according to height to perform the tryout routine each pair at a time. The tryout routine was taught on the first day of clinics. Girls were judged on how quickly they were able to pick up the routine. They were also judge on their skills. These skills included turns, leaps, and jumps. On the second and third day of clinics, the girls performed their solos individually. Each solo must include original choreography and not exceed the time limit of one minute. Final tryouts will take place on April 17th.
Girls who have been on J’ettes previously are eligible to try out for an officer position (captain or squad leader). They must complete another set of requirements. These include an individual interview, a two-minute teaching session, and leadership skills demonstrated in past years as a J’ette. The final tryouts will take place on April 17th at 4:00 in the West Gym. Girls will be scored on three different things: overall dance ability, entertainment (facials), and presentation (girls must wear all black with hair out of face).
