On Thursday, April 19, JHS students will see a movie during school as a reward for being on Red Level for terms 1-6. This is the second year students are able to leave school to watch a movie of their choice.
To be on Red Level, students need to have zero tardies, zero unexcused absences, and zero referrals/suspensions. Also, students need to be passing all classes and have a GPA of at least 3.0.
This year, students are to choose from The Three Stooges, which begins with three newborns left on the doorstep of an orphanage and years later the boys (Moe, Larry, and Curly) learn that the orphanage may be closing due to financial issues. As they try to rescue their childhood home, they stumble into a murder plot and wind up on a reality TV show.
The Hunger Games is a smash box office hit that follows Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute in the hunger games after her sister is selected instead.
Mirror Mirror, is an up-to-date remake of the Disney movie Snow White. It is about a queen, Julia Roberts, who steals control of a kingdom and an exiled princess. Snow White finds help from seven rebels to win the kingdom back.
Reviews of The Hunger Games and Mirror Mirror can be found online under the A&E section.
Students pay $3.00 for the movie and get to choose if they want a sack lunch or food from the theatre. Students are to start loading on the buses around 10 a.m. to Stadium Cinema and head back to school around 1:15 p.m.
“We started the movie reward because we wanted to give something extra to the students who have done well for the school year,” said assistant principal, Jill Dillard.
