Recently, 16 JHS girls got the chance to model for clothing store, J Parsons, in Springfield, Illinois. J Parsons invited any junior or senior girls to model in a fashion show for them if they wanted. It was a fun opportunity for all the girls to strut their stuff and also to raise money for their school.
J Parsons set up one night where the girls modeled prom dresses on their runway in front of all their friends and family and a professional photographer. J Parsons also allotted 15% of the money made that night to go to JHS. Any girls, in the fashion show or not, could buy a dress and also donate money to JHS at the same time.
One JHS senior who modeled in the show, Liza Lewellen, said, “One thing I liked about it was they didn’t put too much pressure on us, and they were just like ‘Go out there and have fun with it’.”
Unfortunately, for many girls they had other after school activities going on, so they could not attend the show, but for all the girls in the show, it was a really fun chance to get dressed up and have all eyes on them for once.
A few days before the show, J Parsons invited the girls to come and pick out any dress in their store to wear in the show. All girls were instructed to wear their hair how they would to prom and add some extra makeup with all the lights shining on them.
It was a very rare chance for each one to get to model on a runway.
Mrs. Barlow was the head coordinator of the show for JHS; she made sure each girl was there on time and knew what was going on. JHS was very pleased with how it went and also to make money from the event.
The overall amount JHS made from the show was $250. Mrs. Barlow said, “I thought it was a great opportunity to showcase JHS. I think everyone had a good time.”
J Parsons was also very pleased with how it went and said that JHS had the best turn out out of all the schools they’ve gone to. Some JHS girls were asked back to model again because of their performance on the runway.
The overall show was huge success, for our school and also for J Parsons. JHS hopes to get this opportunity again next year.
