Ashley Orendoff, Staff Writer

Ashley R. Orendoff is not your typical high school senior. She can often be found with her nose in a book or a flag in her hand. She spends her school day enjoying her classes, talking with her friends, and occasionally getting admonished for reading in class. She would love if Jacksonville High School offered a creative writing course, but for now she is content in Journalism. After school, a typical day for Ashley is band practice, work, or visiting her recruiter in Springfield for Future Soldier Training. If one goes into Shopko during the week, they are likely to find Ashley hard at work while on the weekends she works at Crazy Horse Campgrounds when she doesn’t have a football game or a band competition to keep her occupied. Speaking of band, Ashley is thrilled (and a little nervous) about her first, and unfortunately last, year in the color guard. She is even more excited for the upcoming winter guard season where she plans to perform a solo as well as the group routines. In her little remaining free time, Ashley enjoys reading, writing, baking cookies, and hanging out with her best friends Genna and Kelcey Fanning. They can usually be found singing obnoxiously, having spontaneous water fights, or yelling at movies because “that’s not how the book did it!” Joking aside, all three of them are excited and determined to succeed during their senior year and in their futures.
