JHS girls’ soccer training sessions have begun

As the winter sports season begins at Jacksonville High School, the spring sports begin their training. The JHS girls soccer team have started preparing for their season coming up in the spring.  The senior-led sessions consist of two trainings per week, one for ball work and cardio training and the other for weightlifting. Every session is held at JHS in the weight room or outside on the field.

The girls taking the initiative and starting to prepare for the season so early shows their drive to improve as a team. A senior member of the team said, “It’s really great being able to work with all of the girls, and I hope that since we are putting in so much time during our preseason that it will pay off and we can get some wins this upcoming season.”

Not only does the team feel it is necessary to prepare hard, but they also think it is essential to bond as a team. Senior player, Ariel Mansholt confirmed this by saying, “We have a lot of strong returning members, and the addition of the new ones will make the team even stronger.” For girls’ soccer, it is important to be a well-rounded individual player, but to win games, it is even more important to be a team player and be able to work well with everyone on the team.

In the upcoming weeks, the team will continue to prepare for the season ahead. Open gyms will begin soon after the beginning of second semester and try-outs will follow at the end of February. Everyone is welcome at pre-season trainings, so come on out and get involved to make JHS proud!
