JHS swim takes a new wave

JHS swim is not well known unless you know someone associated with the team. Without a lot of people knowing about the team, it usually does not have that many swimmers. This year, however, the team has about 20 girls! That is a great amount of numbers to have on the team. Bella Munoz, co-captain of the team spoke out about what she thought of the team.
Munoz mentioned the many new swimmers and how she feels they are quite nervous but very excited to be a part of the team. She says, “Each and every one of them have worked so hard to get this far in the season.” Swim is not easy, although most people think it is. Swim is hard, and it takes a lot of dedication to continue on with the work. However, Munoz, along with many of the returners, noticed that the new swimmers caught on quickly, even being new to competition swimming. Munoz makes a very clear statement that describes this team and many other teams. She says, “We work as if a machine in a factory.” She goes on to tell how we all need encouragement or someone there to pick us up when we fall and to let us know that it is okay to fail. Everyone on the team is jealous of someone. The members are not the same and they all have different strengths. Munoz stated that she cannot do breast stroke, where many of the others can, but she would love to learn. Each and every member has to be open to learning a new skill.
The team has had about four meets so far. At almost every single meet, Munoz has noticed that everyone, whether on their own or in a relay, has set a new personal record, or PR! That is fantastic! At each meet, everyone has had positive vibes and good smiles, although the nerves, pain, and emotions have gotten to us. “But we never stop, which makes us strong,” Bella states. Munoz believes that if the team keeps working as hard as they are now, everyone WILL be satisfied and WILL feel accomplished. She believes that we have made our coaches, Sam and Megan, proud and that we will continue to make them proud.
