Notre Dame 16

The best time to have a lead in a sporting event is when the game clock hits 0:00.  The Wisconsin Badgers didn’t trail the Notre Dame Fighting Irish until under six minutes to go in the second half; however, they quickly regained the lead and held a 51-46 advantage with three minutes left to play.  The Fighting Irish, however, just wouldn’t go away as they fought back to tie the game at 51.  The ensuing time would accurately be described as madness.  Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ got an offensive rebound put-back bucket to take a two-point lead with one minute still on the clock.  Notre Dame’s Zach Auguste was then fouled and made both attempts to tie the game from the charity stripe with forty-seven seconds left.  On Wisconsin’s next possession, Vitto Brown nailed a three-pointer with under thirty ticks remaining to play to give the Badgers a 56-53 lead.  These would be the last points the Badgers would score in the game.  Notre Dame’s Demetrious Jackson then put the team on his shoulders.  He scored a layup to cut the deficit to one point and then recorded a steal and another basket in a matter of seconds to give Notre Dame the lead.  Wisconsin would miss their next shot attempt and be forced to foul.  V.J. Beachum made both free throws to give Notre Dame a three-point advantage.  Jackson followed by recording yet another steal; he was fouled and sent to the line where he would make both shots for a final score of 61-56.

Notre Dame was led in scoring by V.J. Beachum with 19 points.  Demetrious Jackson piled on 16 of his own, and Zach Auguste notched 13 points.  Wisconsin was led by Ethan Happ with 14 points.  Nigel Hayes and Zak Showalter each added 11 apiece.

Notre Dame moves on to face the Tar Heels of North Carolina in the Elite Eight as the Fighting Irish have their eyes on their first ever trip to the Final Four.
