Sweet 16 South Region: Jayhawks advance…again

Kansas 16

The number one overall seed Kansas Jayhawks defeated UConn in the “Round of 32” rather easily. Standing in their way on their road to greatness are the Maryland Terrapins. Maryland coasted to wins over South Dakota State and Hawaii in the first couple of rounds, and Kansas would be their first genuine threat in their quest to capture the hearts of college basketball fans, and the National Championship, too.

Like a Sweet 16 game should be, especially since these are two fantastic teams, the first half was a good one. One team would go on a minor run with four or so points then the other team would tie it up and go on a mini-run. The teams traded blows with Kansas leading by three at the half.

In the second half, Kansas pulled away, but it really did not seem as such. It might have been the fact that Maryland could not hit a shot for the life of them, or it could have been Kansas’s stifling defense. Nevertheless, with 6:46 left in the game, Kansas led Maryland by 10, which was the largest lead of the game.

Kansas plays the winner of the Miami/Villanova contest in the Elite 8.
