Sweet 16 West Region: Ducks dodge Duke

Both Oregon and Duke have touted scoring duos.  Elgin Cook and Dillon Brooks have scored in bunches all season for the Ducks and are the main reason Oregon won the Pac-12 Conference and earned a number one seed.  Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram have carried a young, short-handed Duke team and led the Blue Devils back to the Sweet Sixteen a year after they won the National Title.  These four players excelled in this game as they have all year, but Oregon pulled away as the supporting cast of the Ducks helped Brooks and Cook more than that of the Blue Devils.  Duke held the lead only twice in this contest, once at 4-2 and another late in the first half at 27-26.  Oregon ended the first half on a small run to push their lead back to five heading into the break.  Allen and Ingram went cold coming out of the locker room, and Oregon increased their lead to double digits early in the second half and never looked back.  The Ducks led by as many as sixteen points on their way to a decisive victory over the defending national champions.  Duke would make a late push with their season on the line and cut the deficit to nine, but that is as close as they would get as it would not be nearly enough.

Dillon Brooks notched a team high 22 points while Elgin Cook added 16 for the Ducks.  Casey Benson and Chris Boucher each added 11 points apiece, and Jordan Bell poured in 13 points off the bench for Oregon.  Duke was led by Brandon Ingram with 24 and Grayson Allen with 15.  Luke Kennard was the only other Blue Devil in double figures.

Oregon advances to take on Oklahoma in the Elite Eight.
