2nd Round West Region: Ducks reach Sweet Sixteen

Oregon knew the Hawks of Saint Joseph’s would be a much tougher opponent than the Holy Cross Crusaders were in the first round.  Oregon’s two stud scorers would need to take over the game and rise to the occasion if the Ducks wanted a shot at the Sweet Sixteen, and that’s just what Dillon Brooks and Elgin Cook did.  Cook nailed a short jumper on the first possession of the game and not soon after Brooks added a three to get the Ducks headed towards a halftime lead in a half where they never trailed. Saint Joe’s and DeAndre Bembry wouldn’t go down without a fight.  Bembry led the Hawks all the way back in the second half as Saint Joe’s took a 58-51 lead with five minutes left in the ball game.  Seemingly on the verge of defeat, Oregon mounted an 18-6 run to end the game to ultimately send the Ducks to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2013.  The Pac-12 Champions were led in scoring by Dillon Brooks with a game high 25 points.  Elgin Cook chipped in with 18 of his own. As for Saint Joseph’s, DeAndre Bembry amassed a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Oregon, the number one seed in the West Region, now moves on to play the number four seed in the West, Duke. This game will feature two of the best scoring tandems in all of the country as Dillon Brooks and Elgin Cook look to lead their Ducks to the Elite Eight. The only problem is Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram will have their Duke Blue Devils ready for the challenge.
