Never before has a #16 seed beat a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Number one overall seed Kansas Jayhawks took on the  Austin Peay Governors of the Ohio Valley Conference. Austin Peay was looking to make history, but sadly…that did not happen.

Kansas jumped out early and never really looked back. At halftime, Kansas led 48-28. At that point, the game was pretty much over. Kansas ended up winning 105-79.

Perry Ellis, a candidate for the National Player of the Year, scored 21 points for the Jayhawks, Landen Lucas would score 16, and Wayne Selden, Jr., would add 14 in the victory.

The Governors were led by Josh Robinson, who scored 24 points, and Chris Horton who scored 14 points in a losing effort.

Kansas head coach Bill Self said in their press conference, “We played pretty well in stretches. Didn’t guard as well as we needed to guard to have a chance to advance past Saturday…So we’ve got to tighten that up. I do like how our bench played.”

This loss brings Austin Peay to 2-8 all time. The Governors’ last tourney win came in 1987 when they upset the University of Illinois. Kansas will advance to play Connecticut on Saturday.
