On Tuesday, October 2nd, the JHS and Routt volleyball teams participated in the annual Volley for the Cure at the JHS Bowl.
Volley for the Cure is an annual volleyball game that takes place at the Bowl. It is an opportunity to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Many fans also get involved in the game as well with some painting their bodies to show support for both the teams. David Albers, a JHS senior, said, “It was good to be out there and show support for both our volleyball girls and support for breast cancer awareness in general.”
Allyson Fairfield, cancer survivor and sister of Jake Fairfield, a 2011 JHS graduate, was also at the game, as were various other survivors of cancer.
JHS defeated Routt in the first two sets of the match, winning by scores of 25-15 and 25-9, respectively. Junior Jaelyn Keene was the leading scorer for JHS in game one, scoring ten points.
Senior Ellie Hinton liked the fact that it was both a game and a fundraiser for a good cause. “It was a good game all around. We always have fun when we play Routt and that makes it a fun rivalry. It was also nice to see so much support from the fans and that everyone came out to support such a good cause.”
